Heavy emphasis on media ethics. Examples of historiographical topics: the
penny press, the Black press, Civil Rights journalism, press and government,
women and the press, Gilded Age journalism. Articles are blind refereed. No

- Non-scholarly journal that covers items of general interest, e.g., plight
of farmers, the Gary Hart affair, racism, sportswriting, and the role journalism
plays in each. Each issue has approx. three long signed review articles and
three shorter book reviews.

- Intended as "forum for studies on topics related to the full scope
of mass communication history." Publishes annotated, evaluative bibliographies
at irregular intervals. Has a regular book review section. Occasionally publishes
special issues on selected, often interdisciplinary, topics such as sensationalism,
the U.S. Constitution, women in journalism education, making it quite useful
for American Studies scholars. Does publish bibliographies, listed in the
"Recent Scholarship" section and organized by general subject area.

- Devoted to research in journalism and mass communication. Publishes selected,
annotated bibliographies on a regular basis. Covers topics such as advertising,
broadcasting, communication theory, community journalism, criticism and defense
of the media, minorities, public opinion, technology, and women and the media.
Reviews books in three forms: longer review essays, reviews of single volumes,
and capsule reviews. A quarterly bibliography provides a numbered listing,
by subtopic, of published articles and books of interest to journalism/mass
communication researchers.
