COLLEGE PARK, MD - Patrick R. Grzanka, a doctoral candidate in the department, has won one of
the eight graduate teaching fellowships offered in a joint campus-wide
program of the Center for Teaching Excellence and the Graduate School.
The
review committee cited Mr. Grzanka's experience, commitment to enhancing
undergraduate teaching, and his "impressive
and promising" proposal for improving education at the University. Patrick will meet regularly with the other fellowship winners to discuss and resolve pedagogical issues at the undergraduate and graduate levels. He is completing his
dissertation and is the assistant director of Honors Humanities.
The American Studies Department and Program at the University of Maryland is one of the oldest such programs in the United States, having operated continuously since 1945. For much of its history, the Program has been nationally recognized for its contributions to the field, which initially entwined history and literature.
