COLLEGE PARK, MD - Two graduate students in American Studies have received Ann G. Wylie dissertation fellowships from the Graduate School at the University of Maryland for research to be completed in academic year 2008-2009.

Wendy Marie Thompson and Kristen Williams were both awarded the prizes among thirteen other winners in the College of Arts and Humanities. The Wylie fellowships reward and promote the exciting, innovative research of these outstanding Ph.D. students by funding a semester of full-time work on their dissertations.

The Department and Program of American Studies extends congratulations to these two outstanding students and to their advisors and committee members for supporting this exemplary scholarship.

A complete list of winners will be posted shortly to the Graduate School's homepage at www.gradschool.umd.edu.

The American Studies Department and Program at the University of Maryland is one of the oldest such programs in the United States, having operated continuously since 1945. For much of its history, the Program has been nationally recognized for its contributions to the field, which initially entwined history and literature. The Department offers B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. degrees. For more information about American Studies at UMD, please contact americanstudies@umd.edu or visit www.amst.umd.edu.
