David A. Ellis Memorial Scholarship

McGraw-Hill Companies, Inc. and the family and friends of David A. Ellis created the David A. Ellis Memorial Scholarship Endowment to honor his memory and to inspire outstanding undergraduates for years to come.  David, a popular deejay on the campus radio station, was less than one semester away from receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree in American Studies when his promise-filled life was cut short by a fatal fire in his college apartment in January 2006. David was passionate advocate of hip hop music and culture who also enjoyed rock music and studies classical violin. He was eager to investigate cultures different than his own, and enjoyed experiencing them during visits to numerous American cities and on two trips to Asia. David — like his interests — was simply impossible to pigeonhole.

The recipient is selected each spring semester from American Studies majors who plan to be in residence the following fall semester on the basis of academic merit and a written essay.  To apply, be on the lookout for the call for applications sent by email to eligible American Studies undergraduates from the Director of Undergraduate Studies each year.
