President Loh and New AMST Faculty/AAST Director Janelle Wong to Speak at Forum on Immigration and the Upcoming Election – Tuesday, 10/23

The Center for the History of the New America will be hosting a forum on issues related to immigration and the upcoming election.  The forum will take place on Tuesday October 23rd at 4:00 p.m. in the Nyumburu Multipurpose Room.

 

University of Maryland President Wallace Loh will speak about his experience as an immigrant student and about the DREAM Act.  State Senator Victor Ramirez will address the DREAM Act and other issues.  Janelle Wong (Director, UMD Asian American Studies Program) will speak generally about the national issues regarding immigration.  Laura Vasquez from the National Council of La Raza will address legislative and other issues surrounding immigration.  Other sponsors include the Asian American Studies Program, Beyond the Classroom: A Living and Learning Program, Department of Anthropology, Latin American Studies Center, LGBT Equity Center, the School of Public Policy’s Norman and Florence Brody Forum, and the Office of Diversity Education and Compliance.

The Nyumburu Cultural Center is easily accessible via public transit.  It is located next to the Stamp Student Union Building.  The 104 UMD Shuttle from the Greenbelt Metro Station drops you off just in front of Nyumburu.
