Below you will find details on the upcoming events for the USLT Program.
The Political Latinx United for Movement & Action in Society held their second annual town hall meeting in Stamp Student Union’s Atrium. There were five panelists, including our own Dr. Nancy Mirabal. This year there was a discussion about the “Build a Wall” messages that have been written in chalk on sidewalks around campus. Panelists discussed how these messages in support of Presidential candidate Donald Trump were offensive to Latina and Latino students at the university. Other discussions included PLUMAS’ efforts to establish a Latinx Cultural Center on campus and a need to have services available on campus for Latina and Latino students that focus on their intersectional identities.
The U.S. Latina/0 Studies program along with The Center for Global Migration Studies and the Latin American Studies Center presents “From the Border Wall to the Voting Booth: Immigration & the 2016 Election.” There will be a discussion about the roles that migration, immigration, and human rights play in the 2016 U.S. elections. This event will be held in 2110 Taliaferro Hall from 4-6 pm. Please see the flyer below for further details.
