The American studies department at the University of Maryland offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs.

By majoring in American studies, students will gain transferable skills in critical thinking, verbal and written communications, analytical thinking and research, all of which are sought by employers and advanced degree programs.

U.S. Latina/o Studies Minor

The U.S. Latina/o Studies Program at the University of Maryland is a multi-disciplinary program that provides students with the opportunity to critically study and engage with the histories, communities and experiences of Latina/os.

Museum Scholarship and Material Culture Certificate

A unique program in this region, the Museum Scholarship and Material Culture Certificate aims to equip students with skills for research, scholarship and presentation that are appropriate to museums of history, culture and material life.

Beyond the Classroom

Students in the American studies program have the opportunity to gain experience outside of the classroom through internships and by studying abroad.
