Check out our exciting schedule of events by neighborhood below. Admission and parking are free. For more information on what's happening campuswide, visit Maryland Day 2024. Unless otherwise listed, all events run from 10 a.m to 4 p.m.

Arts for All Tent on McKeldin Mall by H.J. Patterson Hall 

Community Love Mural
Arts for All; College of Arts and Humanities
As part of the university's Arts for All initiative, award-winning visual artist and LGBTQ activist Lisa Marie Thalhammer joins Maryland Day guests of all ages to paint a temporary "Love for All" mural on a series of panels.

Main Stage on McKeldin Mall

Arts for All Jazz Performance, noon - 1 p.m.
Arts for All; School of Music Jazz Studies Program
Arts for All presents a performance by students with the School of Music's Jazz Studies program, led by Grammy Award-winning trombonist Mark Williams. The program is known for its refreshing blend of traditional and contemporary jazz styles.

Speech Challenge, Mad Libs and Pet Germ Creation
Department of Communication
Celebrate all things communication with different activities all day. From 10 a.m. to noon, take an impromptu speech challenge by spinning the wheel with the Oral Communication Center. Then join the Black Communication and Technology Lab for creative writing using Mad Libs and illustration supplies from noon to 2 p.m. Then wrap up the day by creating your own pet germ with the Center for Health and Risk Communication.

Participate in an interactive mapping project to create a visual representation of immigration to Maryland.

The World in One Tent
School of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures; Language House
Travel the world with the School of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures in partnership with Language House. Visit the henna station for a traditional design or your name written in a variety of alphabets, practice calligraphy and crafts from around the world, and soothe your mind with calming coloring activities, then reach a sugar high with the aid of international candies.

The creative legacy of David C. Driskell (1931-2020), a renowned artist, educator, curator, scholar and historian, takes center stage in the exhibition “David C. Driskell and Friends: Creativity, Collaboration, and Friendship.” It includes more than 70 artworks by 35 prominent African American artists and original archival materials.

Come jam to explore rhythms and grooves through bucket drumming. This session explores the various sounds we can get out of a simple and accessible instrument—the bucket!

Experience "Activity Course," an outdoor art installation made from recycled objects and salvaged materials created by students from the course "Paint on Site." The students explore painting in a public-facing, environmentally aware and community-oriented way in partnership with Community Forklift and sponsored by Partnership for Action Learning in Sustainability.
