This past Sunday, October 2,  the Baltimore Ravens honored Perla Guerrero, assistant professor of American studies, as their Hispanic Heritage Leadership Award recipient. The NFL and the Hispanic Heritage Foundation (HHF) partner to make the program a reality during the 2016 celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. The awards recognize the contributions of Hispanic leaders in each NFL market.
"I was ecstatic when I heard the Ravens were honoring me as a leader in the Latina/o community," said Guerrero. "As a professor I teach young people about the contributions of people of color and it's crucial for that recognition and representation to be offered in the contemporary moment. My achievements are not mine alone but those of my community."   In addition to being recognized in-game, the recipient selects an organization of their choice that serves the local Hispanic community to receive a $2,000 donation. Guerrero selected Education Based Latino Outreach to receive the grant.    For more information, visit Hispanic Heritage Foundation
